Perform and interpret four of the following analyses to laboratory standard operating procedures on patients with:

  • Primary and secondary diabetes mellitus
  • Newly diagnosed type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Gestational diabetes mellitus
  • Stable diabetes mellitus on treatment
  • Acute diabetic complications
  • Chronic diabetic complications

 

Differential diagnosis and monitoring of diabetes using the following test(s):

  • HbA1c
  • Fasting glucose test
  • Oral glucose tolerance test
  • Insulin and C-peptide
  • Urinary albumin

Evidence requirements

Evidence the activity has been undertaken by the trainee repeatedly, consistently, and effectively over time, in a range of situations. This may include occasions where the trainee has not successfully achieved the outcome of the activity themselves. For example, because it was not appropriate to undertake the task in the circumstances or the trainees recognised their own limitations and sought help or advice to ensure the activity reached an appropriate conclusion. ​
