Training activity information

Details

Shadow a healthcare professional taking physiological measurements in an acute environment, and reflect on their role

Type

Observational training activity (OTA)

Evidence requirements

Evidence the observation or experience has been undertaken by the trainee.

Reflections on the observation or experience at two timepoints including contextualisation to the trainees own practice. E.g., for planned observations, a reflection before the observation and after, or for unplanned events a reflection one day after and another reflection a week later.

Considerations

  • Reflect on the distinctive contribution of the Clinical Scientists in the team
  • Consider the environment in which the measurement is taking place. What is distinctive about the acute setting?
  • Appreciate the requirement for quality checks and data visualisation and interpretation performed in real time
  • Consider how the data is reported and made available within the wider healthcare record
  • Consider if and how the information is conveyed to the patient and the influence of the measurement and results on the patient’s experience
