Training activity information
Details
Perform and interpret cellular immunological assays to establish exposure to a pathogen, for example TB
Type
Entrustable training activity (ETA)
Evidence requirements
Evidence the activity has been undertaken by the trainee repeatedly, consistently, and effectively over time, in a range of situations. This may include occasions where the trainee has not successfully achieved the outcome of the activity themselves. For example, because it was not appropriate to undertake the task in the circumstances or the trainees recognised their own limitations and sought help or advice to ensure the activity reached an appropriate conclusion.
Reflection at multiple timepoints on the trainee learning journey for this activity.
Considerations
Considerations are suggestions about what may be useful for the trainee to think about while undertaking a training activity. They should not be considered as a mandatory checklist. Trainees should not be expected to demonstrate or provide evidence for each of the considerations listed.
- Use, interpretation and limitations of TB interferon release assays
- Sample type, handling/acceptance criteria
- Factors affecting assay validity, including analytical and clinical
- Performance characteristics, including sensitivity and specificity
- Uncertainty of measurement
- Guidelines and diagnostic criteria
- IQC and EQA, including challenges with quality controlling procedures
