Training activity information

Details

Analyse the results of anorectal physiology investigations and produce written reports

Type

Entrustable training activity (ETA)

Evidence requirements

Evidence the activity has been undertaken by the trainee repeatedly, consistently, and effectively over time, in a range of situations. This may include occasions where the trainee has not successfully achieved the outcome of the activity themselves. For example, because it was not appropriate to undertake the task in the circumstances or the trainees recognised their own limitations and sought help or advice to ensure the activity reached an appropriate conclusion.

Reflection at multiple timepoints on the trainee learning journey for this activity.

Considerations

  • Local, national and international guidelines and standards for anorectal physiology investigations, including use of terminology and acronyms
  • Identification of artefacts, and how to adapt analysis accordingly
  • Normal and abnormal ranges of results for male and female patients
  • Local protocol for reporting anorectal physiology investigations
  • Reporting of anomalies or deviations from protocol during the investigations
  • Dissemination of results to relevant referring clinicians
  • Reflective practice

Relevant learning outcomes

# Outcome
# 5 Outcome

Perform, analyse and report anorectal physiology investigations in a range of patient conditions adapting the procedure to answer the scientific question and to meet the patient’s needs.

# 6 Outcome

Perform routine maintenance and calibration of anorectal manometry equipment, recognising problems and artefacts which may result in an inaccurate study being performed.
