Training activity information
Details
Observe the preparation of a resection specimen, from dissection to creation of slides and reflect on the process
Type
Observational training activity (OTA)
Evidence requirements
Evidence the observation or experience has been undertaken by the trainee.
Reflections on the observation or experience at two timepoints including contextualisation to the trainees own practice. E.g., for planned observations, a reflection before the observation and after, or for unplanned events a reflection one day after and another reflection a week later.
Considerations
- How the interpretation of the patient’s clinical history and anatomy impacts the approach to the dissection
- The steps required to record data, including patient identity, information governance and the document management process
- Health and safety, including laboratory safety and handling fixed tissues.
- Infection control measures when working with human tissue
- Ethical and safe use, and the storage and disposal of residual wet specimens, blocks and slides
