Follow the patient pathway for patients undergoing orthognathic treatment, from pre surgical assessment, surgery and subsequent post-operative review, and reflect on the journey

Evidence the observation or experience has been undertaken by the trainee.

Reflections on the observation or experience at two timepoints including contextualisation to the trainees own practice. E.g., for planned observations, a reflection before the observation and after, or for unplanned events a reflection one day after and another reflection a week later.

Considerations

  • Reflect on the journey, considering:
    • The members of the team involved in the patient pathway, their role and importance to the pathway
    • Communication and co-ordination between the teams and the administration required to organise the patient pathway
    • Communication with the patient and carers
    • How patient safety, dignity and confidentiality are maintained
    • Consent
    • Patient expectations of the treatment
    • Patient information provision (pre-post op)
    • Measurement of outcomes for orthognathic surgery
    • The application of the principles of patient centered care
    • The accessibility of care
