- genitourinary tract, including sexually transmitted and urinary tract infections
- respiratory tract
- gastrointestinal tract
- skin and soft tissue
- eye, liver (viral hepatitis)
- postoperative/inoculation.

- The analysis of the sample types associated with these infections.
- The interpretation of the analysis.
- The implication of these results and the need to report significant results to local or regional bodies (including statutory notification of diseases).
