Provide non-directive genetic and genomic counselling in a supportive manner, in a case where pre- conceptual choices are being discussed with an individual or couple at increased risk of having a pregnancy affected with a genetic condition.

  • Counselling strategies to facilitate the couple’s adjustment to this decision.
  • Counselling skills including:
    • Active listening skills
    • Clarification skills
    • Reflection and summary skills
    • Appropriate use of empathic statements
    • Ability to establish a good rapport with the individual/family and reflect on how this was achieved
  • Act in accordance with GCRB Code of Conduct.
  • Act in accordance with the HCPC and their standards of proficiency for clinical practice.
