Aim of this module
The aim of this module is to introduce the trainee to specialised radiotherapy treatment techniques and modalities including brachytherapy, kV, electrons and SABR.

On successful completion of this module the trainee will be able to:
- Critically appraise brachytherapy delivery techniques and treatment planning and explain the associated dosimetry systems.
- Compare and contrast alternative superficial treatment modalities, their clinical uses, treatment planning approaches, and dosimetry.
- Explain the principles of, and requirements for, stereotactic treatments, critically evaluating the risks and safety requirements.
- Critically evaluate a range of specialised and novel radiotherapy treatment techniques and treatment planning modalities.

Clinical experiences
Important information
Clinical experiential learning is the range of activities trainees may undertake in order to gain the experience and evidence to demonstrate their achievement of module competencies and assessments. The list is not definitive or mandatory, but training officers should ensure, as best training practice, that trainees gain as many of these clinical experiences as possible. They should be included in training plans, and once undertaken they should support the completion of module assessments and competencies within the e-portfolio.
Activities
- Observe brachytherapy on a non-gynaecological treatment site.
- Attend theatre session for brachytherapy.
- Attend a brachytherapy multidisciplinary team meeting and follow the patient pathway to appreciate the options for treatment and patient experience undergoing treatment.
- Attend a SABR multidisciplinary team meeting and follow the patient pathway to appreciate the options for treatment and patient experience undergoing treatment.
- Observe a brachytherapy source change considering logistics and application of legislation around receipt and storage of radioactive sources.
