Module objective

By the end of the training period trainees will, in respect to background and principles, be able to:

• Analyse, synthesise, evaluate and apply knowledge
• Perform a range of technical and clinical skills and procedures
• Demonstrate the attitudes and behaviours necessary for professional practice as a consultant clinical scientist dealing with the complexities, uncertainties and tensions of professional practice at this level.

Knowledge and understanding

• Understands the principles of microscopy
• Demonstrates knowledge of the microscopic features of the range of normality within tissues as well as the major common pathological processes and patterns of disease

Technical and clinical skills

• Demonstrates ability to set up a microscope with ergonomic safety and operate it effectively
• Demonstrates ability to recognise the microscopic features of tissue structure in normality and disease
