Module objective
By the end of the training period trainees will, in respect to background and principles, be able to:
- Analyse, synthesise, evaluate and apply knowledge
- Perform a range of technical and clinical skills and procedures
- Demonstrate the attitudes and behaviours necessary for professional practice as a consultant clinical scientist dealing with the complexities, uncertainties and tensions of professional practice at this level.
Knowledge and understanding
- Demonstrates understanding of specimens obtained via:
- Prostate biopsies and chippings
- Orchidectomy and if available prostatectomy specimens
- Demonstrates understanding of commonly encountered neoplastic and non-neoplastic disease processes, for example:
- Prostatic adenocarcinoma
- Benign prostatic hyperplasia
- Testicular tumors such as germ cell tumours
Technical and clinical skills
- Reports normal vas deferens
- Recognises presence of PIN and cancer in prostatic needle biopsies
- Describes, dissects and reports orchidectomy specimens
- Recognises seminoma, embryonal carcinoma, and other testicular tumours
