Type

Observational training activity (OTA)

Evidence requirements

Evidence the observation or experience has been undertaken by the trainee.

Reflections on the observation or experience at two timepoints including contextualisation to the trainees own practice. E.g., for planned observations, a reflection before the observation and after, or for unplanned events a reflection one day after and another reflection a week later.

Considerations

    • Outpatient clinic role of the junior dental/medical staff in the pathway of treatment
    • Patient treatment in an A&E setting
    • How patient safety, dignity and confidentiality are maintained
    • The hierarchy of the “on call” structure
    • Patient care pathway and the route into ongoing treatment
    • Management of primary trauma and patient expectations
    • The role of the maxillofacial multidisciplinary team in the management of acute cases
    • Communication of complex information within the multidisciplinary team
    • Diversity and complexity of acute trauma
    • The impact of primary care on patient and carer
