- malaria
- haemorrhagic fever
- pandemic influenza
- common tropical infections.
Considerations
- Common measures for preventing infection in travellers and their appropriate use:
- travel vaccination
- malaria prophylaxis
- mosquito and tick bite prevention
- food and water precautions.
- The aetiology, risk factors, clinical presentation, diagnosis and management of malaria, including:
- global epidemiology and risk
- laboratory diagnosis
- prevention and treatment
- The aetiology, risk factors, clinical presentation, diagnosis and management of viral haemorrhagic fevers, including:
- global epidemiology and risk
- laboratory diagnosis and risk assessment
- management (laboratory and clinical)
- national guidance (e.g. HSE, ACDP)
- national reference laboratories/infectious diseases units.
- Pandemic influenza, including:
- the role of the clinical laboratory
- collaboration between national and international agencies
- the state of preparedness.
- The aetiology, risk factors, clinical presentation, diagnosis and management of:
- schistosomiasis
- filariasis
- trypanosomiasis
- gastrointestinal parasites
- dengue fever
- yellow fever
- tuberculosis
- HIV
- enteric fever
- cholera
- dysentery.
