Details
Perform a standard transthoracic echocardiogram in an adult patient, optimising image quality and identifying artefacts
Considerations
- Common presenting conditions and pathological processes underlying the presentation of patients referred for these procedures
- Standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the procedure
- Recognise normal variants, for example, Eustachian valve, Chiari network and left ventricular tendon
- Rationale for specific test selection
- Optimisation of image quality and the use of correct frequency, frame rate, focus, sector width, depth and gain
- Identification of common artefacts
- Storage of images from standard acoustic windows in accordance with local or national protocol
