Programme aim

To provide clinical scientist trainees with strong science-based, patient-centred clinical training in Cellular Science.

Programme level learning outcomes

Andrology

  1. Perform, interpret and report diagnostic andrology assessments according to national and international guidelines
  2. Apply assisted reproductive technology techniques; assessing and preparing sperm and evaluating the outcome
  3. Evaluate risk and facilitate assisted reproduction using donated sperm according to regulatory requirements
  4. Outline the appropriate pathways for patients referred to the Andrology service based on clinical parameters
  5. Explain procedures to patients, facilitating understanding to enable informed consent to be provided in accordance with regulatory requirements
  6. Assess and quality assure the performance of practice, demonstrating safe and effective practice, minimising risk to all users.
  7. Practice in partnership with the multidisciplinary team and other clinical specialties in the investigation and management of patients referred to Andrology services
  8. Appraise emerging technologies and clinical advances to evolve practice in diagnostic and therapeutic Andrology

Entry routes and requirements

Entry routes In England there are two routes into the programme

  • Direct entry – Trainees are competitively appointed into a training post funded through the local Health Education England training board
  • In-service entry – Trainees enter the programme with the support of their employers.
Entry requirements For both entry routes, STP applicants must participate in the national recruitment process and meet the minimum entry requirements for the programme.
Programme regulations Attendance requirements:

As employees of their host organisation, trainees are required to attend the workplace as required by their employer.

Trainees are required to attend all sessions as specified by the Higher Education Institute.
