Programme level learning outcomes
Cancer Genomics
- Select the relevant testing strategy for patients referred for diagnostic genomic testing for solid tumour and haematological malignancies
- Evaluate the clinical significance of molecular findings for diagnosis, prognostication, treatment decisions and disease surveillance for solid tumour and haematological malignancies following best practice guidelines
- Prepare interpretive reports summarising the findings from the molecular investigation of solid tumour and haematological malignancies
- Evaluate the clinical significance of molecular variants using a range of bioinformatics tools following best practice guidelines
- Practice effectively with relevant specialties for the diagnosis, treatment, disease surveillance and management of patients under investigation for solid tumour and haematological malignancies
- Explain the findings of the investigation of solid tumour and haematological malignancies to other healthcare professionals adapting communication methods to facilitate understanding
- Apply the quality management and accreditation standards required for a diagnostics laboratory
- Interpret the associated IQC and EQA of the laboratory tests for the investigation of solid tumours and haematological malignancies.

Entry routes and requirements
Entry routes | In England there are two routes into the programme
|
---|---|
Entry requirements | For both entry routes, STP applicants must participate in the national recruitment process and meet the minimum entry requirements for the programme. |
Programme regulations | Attendance requirements:
As employees of their host organisation, trainees are required to attend the workplace as required by their employer. Trainees are required to attend all sessions as specified by the Higher Education Institute. |
This specification provides a concise summary of the main feature of the programme and the learning outcomes expected of a threshold Clinical Scientist. More detailed information on module-specific learning outcomes, learning and assessment methods is available in the relevant module pages. More detailed information on entry routes and requirements can be found on the NSHCS website.
