Programme level learning outcomes
Imaging with Non-Ionising Radiation
- Critically appraise the clinical application of non-ionising radiation, including the advantages and limitations of techniques
- Interpret legislation guiding the safe use of non-ionising radiation in the clinical environment to ensure the protection of patients, staff and public
- Assess and monitor the performance of clinical equipment using non-ionising radiation
- Manipulate, process, analyse and troubleshoot clinical images acquired with non-ionising radiation
- Generate and optimise protocols for the safe acquisition of clinical images with non-ionising radiation
- Use non-ionising radiation equipment safely in clinical practice
- Plan and manage the lifecycle of clinical equipment using non-ionising radiation
- Explain complex concepts related to non-ionising radiation to non-experts, adapting communication to meet the needs of the audience
- Practice effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering non-ionising radiation services to provide safe, patient centred care
- Evaluate the application of novel and evolving non-ionising techniques in clinical practice
Learning and teaching methods

Entry routes and requirements
Entry routes | In England there are two routes into the programme
|
---|---|
Entry requirements | For both entry routes, STP applicants must participate in the national recruitment process and meet the minimum entry requirements for the programme. |
Programme regulations | Attendance requirements:
As employees of their host organisation, trainees are required to attend the workplace as required by their employer. Trainees are required to attend all sessions as specified by the Higher Education Institute. |
This specification provides a concise summary of the main feature of the programme and the learning outcomes expected of a threshold Clinical Scientist. More detailed information on module-specific learning outcomes, learning and assessment methods is available in the relevant module pages. More detailed information on entry routes and requirements can be found on the NSHCS website.
Information on trainee support can be found on the NSHCS website.
